This is a semester long class that runs opposite Macro-Economics. Please refer to course outline: 2014-15 Government Outline 2 ( I know it’s 2016-17)
Week of Aug 18th/22nd. – Thursday we will go over the class together: outline, expectations, etc. followed by a Citizenship test. HW. will be to have read section 1, and have notes by Mon. On Mon, we will take a pre-test on US Government. Afterwards, we will begin our look at Government and the State. Tuesday. we will conclude with this and take a quiz over it, Afterwards, we will look closer at John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government. HW for Weds. will be to read Section 2 Forms of Government, and have notes ready. We will create some charts identifying the ways to classify these governments for a grade. A quiz will follow. HW for Thursday will be to read section 3-The basic concepts of Democracy (Take notes). On Thursday, we will look at the Issue: The Future of the state. Then start in on discussing Section three.
Week of Aug. 29th- On Mon. we will conclude section 3 and quiz over it. We will wrap up with the Close-up on the Supreme Court, pg 23. HW Is to go over the chapter review, and/or Self Test in preparation for the Chapter test on Tuesday. After the test on Tuesday. we will allow for any Politico discussions you wish to get into. HW Read Section 1, Chapter 3 for Weds. We will begin Section 1 of Chapter 3 after returning the results from the Exam. Thursday, a quiz over section 1 followed by a discussion on the 2nd amendment.
Week of Sept. 6th- Tuesday, we will wrap up section 1 of Chapter 3, including a look at interpreting political cartoons and a quiz over the material. HW will be section 2 of chapt. 3 (take notes) Weds. we will launch into Formal amendments in section 2. This will be concluded on Thursday with a quiz at the end of the hour. HW over the weekend should be to read section 3 for Mon.
Week of Sept. 12th- On Mon. we will look at Section 3, after wrapping up section 2 from last week. Constitutional Change by other means-afterwards we will quiz over this Tuesday. Afterwards, we will be to go over the Chapter rev. Tuesday will be a jeopardy review along with stress points for Thurs. Exam. After the Exam on Thurs. begin reading Chapter 18. On Mon. we will look over the results of the exam and then begin The Federal Court System Chapter 18. Remember that this unit covers chapters 18-21. We should be testing over this around the Sept. 29th.
Week of Sept. 19th- On Mon. we will get into the Judicial Branch. Be sure to have your study guide completed as we will have a small group assessment afterwards on Weds. and Thursday we will be going over Chapter 19 on Civil Liberties. Expect an assessment at the conclusion as well. Over the weekend, be getting your notes for Chapter 20.
Week of Sept. 26th- Mon. wrap up First Amendment Freedoms with small group checking of WS over Section 3&4 followed by PPT over Individual Liberties. HW is take notes over sections 1&2 Chapter 20. Tues. we will have small group work on that material. HW take notes on Section 3&4 Sm group work on Weds. Thursday a closer look at Gideon v. Wainwright.
Week of Oct. 3rd. On Mon. we will go over chapter 21 section 1&2. Tuesday we will conclude with Sections 3&4. Weds will be our review and Thursday our Exam.

Week of Sept.19th- On A Quiz over the material will occur on Weds. Afterwards, we will look at the 2nd amendment issue and then launch into Formal amendments in section 2. This will be concluded on Thursday with a quiz at the end of the hour. HW over the weekend should be to read section 3 for Mon.
Week of Sept. 8th- On Mon. we will look at Section 3, Constitutional Change by other means-afterwards we will quiz over this HW will be to go over the Chapter rev. Week of Sept. 22nd- On Mon. we will conclude with Protecting Individual Rights. Tuesday, we will take an assessment over this and get into Gideon v. Wainwright case. Afterwards, Civil Rights: Equal Justice Under the Law (Chapt. 21) this will go through early next week. Our Unit Test will be next week. Look for important links over this material under this paragraph.
Week of Sept. 29th- Mon. and Tuesday we will go over Chapter 21 in class (look for links under this). Weds. will be a review day for the Unit Exam on Thursday. Afterwards, we will preview American Political Culture for next week.
Week of Oct. 6th- We will begin American Political Culture with Chapter 6. This Unit will require an understanding of the material. First, we will go over that which you need to know. Along the the way, we will be covering the power-points below and preparing for our test next week.
Week of Oct. 13th- Mon we will continue with chapter 8 (be sure you bring in your completed study guides and local broadcast papers as they are due then) Tuesday we will wrap things up and review for our Exam on Weds. Afterwards, we will look at our next unit as we will be attacking it differently.
Now hear this: You need to complete that chapter reviews for a grade prior to the unit test. Our next unit covers Chapters 5, 7, and 9. Do them as we cover the material
Week of Oct. 20th- We will finish up with Chapter 5 on Mon. then begin on Chapter 7. By the end of the week we will have moved into Chapter 9. The Chapter reviews need to done as we go through them. Look for the PPTs below
Week of Oct. 27th- We will be concluding the unit on Political Behavior with Interest groups. Make sure all chapter reviews are in by Thursday as we will be taking our Exam over the material the. Afterwards, we will start in on the Legislative branch. (Chapters 10-12)
Week of Nov. 3rd- We will be working on our layered curriculum for the Legislative unit. Remember for a “C” you must pass the oral questions from each chapter by the 20th. To get a “B” you need to also complete one project from each chapter. An “A” will require two. We will have the project choices available on Mon. ( Update: Look at the links below to understand your assignments)
Week of Nov. 10th- This is week two of the layered curriculum project. Be sure you are completing your orals in class and not getting behind. Projects can be turned in as you complete them either on-line or in person.
Week of Nov. 17th- Last full week of our Legislative branch layered curriculum. We will be covering chapter 12 in class and doing orals. Next week for two days will be the last time you can get any work completed before the break. After Thanksgiving, we will be into the Executive Branch.
Week of Nov. 24th- Mon. and Tuesday we will wrap up our Unit on the Legislative branch. All orals must be completed by the break along with projects.
Week of Dec. 1st -We will begin on the Presidency (Chapter 13) I expect to have it completed by Weds. (turn in the Chapter Rev. 1-24, pg 386 by Weds.) We will then get into Chapter 14 to finish the week. (The Chapter Review on pg 410, 1-29 is due on Mon. Dec. 8th).
Week of Dec. 8th- Turn in chapter 14 on Mon. and we will begin on Chapter 15. Chapter 15 review is due on Weds. We will review that day for the exam on Thursday. Finals next week.
Week of Dec. 15th- Finals week. We will be reviewing on Mon and Tuesday with Final Exams scheduled on Weds. and Thursday. All make-up work must be in by the end of the week.
Week of Jan 5th- I have posted the power point for this first chapter, and will continue to do so as the year goes on. It was great to meet all of you! I am very excited for this semester. Please remember to get your syllabus signed at some point before tomorrow. We will tackle chapter 1 and review over the next two days. Our test for chapter 1 will be on Thursday, so make sure you are studying regularly and taking good notes! The test will not take the entire class period, so make sure that you bring all materials to class that day.
Week of Jan. 12th- Mon. Turn in your Amendment Paper. This assignment will be given the same weight as your test. This week we will discuss the Constitution. There are many links available on this blog that will assist you in learning this content, so use them! I will also give you a few Youtube channels to look at. We will have our test NEXT week on Tuesday, so make sure that you study over the weekend! You will also be completing the chapter review for this UNIT. Get a head start today! I will make sure you are aware of everything coming up in class today, see you soon! Also, be thinking about when you might complete your politico for this quarter, there is so much going on! Week of Jan. 19th- This week we will begin on Monday with a Jeopardy Review game, posted below. We will then close out this UNIT by taking our chapter 3 test on Tuesday. You will do very well if you have been in class, completed the chapter review, and have taken a look at the Jeopardy questions! Be sure to bring your materials to class on Tuesday, as the test will not take the entire period. We will begin Chapter 18 that day, and start our next section of Civil Rights and Liberties. This upcoming UNIT is four chapters (18, 19, 20, 21), so be prepared for much more content! The class will also change up, so be sure to stay on top of things as we accelerate this week. Week of Jan 26th-29th
We will be tackling the US court system (Judicial Branch) in chapter 18 this week. We will begin chapter 19 shortly, more than likely Wednesday.
HOMEWORK: The chapter 18 “main ideas” will be due this Thursday, Jan 29th (page 528, 13-29). Expect to have some sort of assignment to go along with everything that will be completed over the weekend (stay tuned).
Please make sure that you are reading the chapter as we go, as this will pay dividends on our assessment (s). Also, make sure that any make up work is completed shortly after you return (2 days max). If you are in need of points… you can always do your politico early! The chapter reviews are also a great source of points, so please get those in on time!
week of Feb. 2nd- We are finishing chapter 19 this week, so the “main ideas” will be due this Thursday (Feb. 5th). Make sure you start reading chapter 20, as we will be picking up the pace a little bit in order to be ready for our test on ALL four chapters next Thursday. Expect a quiz at some point this week… potentially something you will be able to use your notes for. We will have a few POD’s and in-class assignments that can really help your grade. If you are looking for extra points, start by doing a politico ASAP (these are 20 points). This is our first UNIT with multiple chapters. Please stay diligent and get extra help if you feel that you do not understand something. Let’s have a great week!!

Week of Feb 9-12 – DUE: “Main ideas” for chapter 20 are due on Tuesday, Feb 10th. Your papers are also due this week on Wednesday Feb 11th. Please remember that if you share these documents with me, I would still prefer the hard copy. Plan ahead because late is late, and the internet can be shaky at times. Looking ahead: This week we will finish chapter 20 and 21. Our review is planned for Monday Feb 16th. Our test will follow on Tuesday Feb 17th. This test will be more difficult than the previous, due to the content covered (4 chapters). Make sure that you study study study! Due Dates: Main Ideas for Chapter 21 (p. 620, 12-27) is due Wednesday – We will also be taking our test on Chapters 18, 19, 20, 21 this Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how things go! Do not plan for snow!!! I will have a jeopardy game posted after we get to play in class. This will help tremendously. Also, please see Mr. Bistodeau, or myself, for extra help before/after/during school hours. You will do exceedingly well on this test if you are here in school this week, as I tend to reward those who are regularly present. This week will conclude a rather large UNIT. Week of Feb. 23rd- This week we will begin another UNIT. This will be a discourse on political culture, and we will go through both chapter 6 and 8. There is VERY limited time for you to complete a politico before the end of our quarter. Be mindful of this, and make sure you are signed up if possible. Juniors will have a relatively booked schedule in the week to come. Seniors should be largely unaffected. Make sure you READ both chapters for this UNIT, as many of you will be missing notes. Remember that you can always take notes on your own by following the power point links to relevant chapters. This may come in handy… We will have a commercial assignment due Friday, and chapter main ideas for at least ch 6. As always, be mindful of any POD points and those you miss. Week of March 2nd- We will continue with our Unit on American Political Culture. It is State Mandated Test week so if you miss class keep up on your own by getting the Chapter Main Ideas taken care of. Chapter 6 is due on Weds. and your News Station comparison is due Mon. We will conclude with the unit by the end of the week Chapter 8 main Ideas are due next Mon. Our Test should be next Tuesday.
Week of March 9th- On Mon. we will review for our Exam on Tuesday. Tuesday is Test day followed by Chapter 5.We then begin on Chapter 7. By the end of the week we will have near completed that. Next week we will wrap it up with chapter 9. The Chapter reviews need to done as we go through them. Look for the PPTs below. Our Exam over this unit will be before spring break. Chapter 5 Vocabulary will be due Thursday, Chapter 7 next Mon. and Chapter 9 next Thursday.
Week of March 16th- We will conclude our unit this week. Chapter 7 vocabulary is due Mon. and Chapter 9 is due Thursday with our exam on Thursday. (Powerpoints are linked above) Spring break is upon us.

Week of April 6th- We are on week two of our legislative layered unit. (See above) Don’t forget to be ready with your politicos.
Week of April 13th- Last week of layered legislative unit. Get all your work in by end of week along with oral tests completed. Politicos start each day.
Week of April 20th- The next three weeks will be devoted to the Presidency. Power-points are linked below. PODs and writing assignments will occur throughout the unit. Our Exam should be either the 6th or 7th of May.
Week of May 4th- We will conclude with chapter 15 on Mon. Review on Tuesday and Test on Weds. Thursday we will be preparing for our final next week.
Week of May 11th- Our final is Weds. Mon. and Tues. we will be preparing for it. Thursday and next week Juniors will be involved in some videos of the Presidency that are fun and raise some important questions. Text books need to be turned in on Tuesday or Weds. May 12th or 13th.
