7th Grade Social Studies-Eastern Hemisphere/Colorado History

We will be learning about the Eastern Hemisphere of our Planet this year. The Geography, both the Human and Physical, along with the History of the Area will be our focus. The Map you see to the left should remind you that we will continue our task at creating and interpreting maps this year with places on the other side of the globe.

You will learn about the building down below. Where it is and why it’s there along with how it impacted the people of the region is a inter-related story.

Speaking of stories, the Photo below is from a story that came out of Scotland. Scotland is about to become independent from England this year. The people of this region have been trying for many years to gain their freedom from England. This school year may signal a great change in the region of the British Islands.

Week of Aug. 22nd.- After going over your background in Geography and reviewing the 5 Themes, we will begin the year by looking at the Ancient Greeks and moving up to the Middle Ages in Europe, Greece to Feudal Europe. Look forward to tales of bravery and character traits that allow mankind to have something to aspire to. A quiz will follow afterwards. Oh Yeah, I will be giving you a Pretest to see what you know about things we will be focusing on this year.

Week of Aug. 26th- On Mon.We will look at the 5 Themes of Geography, The Five Themes of Geography. We will Rap a Tune that shows our understanding of these themes along with looking over our notes so that we are ready for a quiz on Tuesday.  We will then begin looking at the Ancient Greeks and moving up to the Middle Ages in Europe, Greece to Feudal Europe, a PPT presentation and take a quiz over it at the beginning of next  week. Next we will focus on Feudalism and take on some role playing along with Understanding the purpose and function of Castles.

Week of Sept. 3rd- On Tuesday we will conclude with our power-point and take a quiz over it on Weds. We will then create a blueprint of a Castle that you would build during Middle Ages. Blue Print is due next Monday. We will watch a video from PBS on Castle building that is also posted here if you are not at school. Then you will need to build your castle for next week.

Week of Sept. 9th-Bring in your Blueprints Mon. the we will be working on learning the map of Europe in class over the next few days. Expect a map test by Thursday. Your Castles are due next Mon. We will begin learning about the Renaissance and Revolution (Renaissance and Revolution ).

Week of Sept. 16th- On Mon. we will continue with our look at Leonardo da Vinci after sharing our Castles. Tuesday we will stop what we are doing and look at the significance of Constitution day. Weds. We will split time between the lab and class ( Map of Europe Practice and da Vinci) Thursday is current Event Day. Map test on Europe next Monday.

Week of Sept. 23rd. On Mon. we will take our test over the countries of Europe. Afterwards, we will be looking at the Industrial Revolution and Nationalism through Weds. Expect a quiz on Weds. Lastly, will be a look at Imperial Russia and quiz over it on Thursday.Then a look at at the Rise and Fall of the USSR (  Rise and Fall of Soviet Union ) with a open note quiz to follow. Our first exam will be next Tuesday.

Week of Sept.30th- We will conclude with  Imperial Russia and quiz over it on Afterwards.Then a look at at the Rise and Fall of the USSR (  Rise and Fall of Soviet Union ) with a open note quiz to follow. Our first exam will be on Thursday.

Week of Oct. 7th- Mon. we will look over our Thursday Tests and go over possible re-take scenarios. Tuesday is re-take day and then work together on the Ilike to learn site for Africa. Your Map test of Africa is next Mon. We will begin looking at the History of Africa as well,  Africa’s First PeopleBe studying your map of Africa this weekend and complete your free hand map to turn in on Mon.

Week of Oct. 14th- Mon. will be our Map Test on Africa. Afterwards we will continue with Africa’s First People. Tuesday we will have a quiz over the notes then  look at the Conquest of Africa: Africa conquest . We will Quiz over that on Weds. Current Events are Thursday.

Week of Oct. 21st- On Mon. we will conclude with the Conquest of Africa and quiz over it afterwards. This will be followed by the video : The African Queen. A WW I story showing the ramifications on the colonies in Africa and the people living there. You will be taking notes as there will be some questions on our Exam related to the story.

Week of Oct. 28th- Mon. will see us complete  Independence and its Challenges followed by a quiz. Afterwards,  will be a video on Botswana today. Weds will be Issues for Africa Today followed by a review session over all of Africa. Monday will be our Exam.

Week of Nov. 4th- Mon. will be our Exam. Tuesday results examined and Weds. Re-takes. Thursday will be lab-time on Ilike2learn for the Middle East and Asia. Map Test next Weds.

Week of Nov. 11th- Mon. will be lab time on the Maps. Tuesday I will  go over the History and Culture of SW Asia  SW Asia A take home quiz will follow. Weds. our Map test and Thursday is Current Event.

Week of Nov. 18th- Mon. we will get back to the Crusades and conclude on Tuesday. This will be followed by a look at Central Asia ,Central Asia .  A quiz will follow afterwards. Then it’s off to a look at the History and Culture of South Asia,  South Asia . A take home quiz, South Asia Quiz will follow.

Week of Nov. 25th- Mon. we will look at Butan and the legend of Shangri-la Tuesday will be our class room Geo-Bee.(Snow day Update: We will look at the Video Clips on Tuesday and reschedule the Geo-Bee for another time)

Week of Dec. 2nd- Mon. we will look at the country of Nepal and the challenge of climbing the world’s highest mountain with the IMAX video on Everest. After concluding this on Tuesday. we will read excerpts from the book “Little princes”, which tells about conditions for students your age in Nepal. Afterwards, it’s off to  East Asia,  East Asia Historical overview ,and have a quiz afterwards. A reading on the Hiroshima bombing will follow then we will look at the Korean War over the next day.

Week of Dec. 9th- Monday we will look at the Empire of China. Tuesday we will begin SE Asia . There will be an open note assignment(  SE Asia Quiz ) due Weds. We will look at the Vietnam War on that day. Thursday is current Events. Next week will be our Exam over all of Asia (Tuesday)

Week of Dec. 16th. Mon. we will review Asia for our Exam on Tuesday. Tuesday Exam, Weds go over results and prep for any needed re-takes on Thursday. Re-takes on Thursday.

Week of Jan. 6th- Mon. we will go over Oceania and take a quiz over that afterwards. Then on Tuesday we will look at Australia’s policy with their Native people over time. in “Rabbit Proof Fence” When that’s done, it’s time to shift to the Western Hemisphere. We will look at Canada’s History, Canada . We will conclude with the presentation and quiz over it upon conclusion. We will also be learning the different provinces  of Canada, their Capitals and the 50 states of the USA. Expect a Map Test over this the end of next week.

Week of Jan. 13th- Mon. and Tuesday we will be in the lab working on Canada and USA Ilike2learn maps. Weds. will be your Map tests. Thursday is Current Event Day.

Week of Jan. 20th- We will complete Rabbit Proof Fence on Monday. On Tuesday, The First Americans ,  and conclude this on Weds. with the Revolutionary War. A Quiz over this will follow. On Thurs. we will look at the growth and settlement of the country up to the civil war Growth,Settlement and the Civil War .

Week of Jan. 27th- We will conclude  Growth,Settlement and the Civil War and take our quiz over this. Tuesday and Weds. we will look at  how the USA World Power period went down. A quiz at the end of Weds. is on tap. Thursday we will look at the Cuban Missile crisis. Our Exam will be next Tuesday.

Week of Feb. 3rd- Monday will be a review day for Tuesday’s Exam. Weds. we will launch into Latin America and the lab to study the maps of the area. Our Map test will be on Mon.

Week of Feb. 10th- Mon. will be our map test followed by a look at the history of Latin America  Early Civilizations of the Americas . A quiz over this will occur on Tuesday. Weds. we will get into the European Conquest. Thursday is Current Events.

Week of Feb. 17th- We will take our quiz over the European Conquest and then look at the Real Pirates of the Caribbean. Afterwards we will  look at the Independence movement in Latin America,   Independence in Latin America . On Thursday, we will look at the issues in Latin America today.

Week of Feb. 24th-On Monday. we will look at the issues in Latin America today,   Issues in Latin America ,including: taking a closer look at the Deforestation of the Rain Forests. A take home quiz will follow. Tuesday is a review day. Weds is our Exam. Thursday, we will be look at the Tools of a Geographer.

Week of March 3rd. Mon. Our Planet the Earth, Powerpoint presentation -click here Our Planet, The Earth, ,we will be taking a Quiz on that material afterwards. Then it’s off to look at Changes within the Earth, Land, Air, and Water and conclude with changes on the surface. Weds. will be your quiz over this material. Thursday, we will look at a video on those changes. Current Events are due next Thursday.

Week of March 10th-Mon.  it’s off to how climate affects vegetation: How Climate affects Vegetation. with a quiz to follow. We will take our test on Weds. after a review day on Tues. Jeopardy Activity-https://jeopardylabs.com/play/earths-physical-geography8 Thursday is current events.

Week of March 17th-On Mon. we will look at “What is Culture”  What is Culture . Tuesday. will see a quiz. Afterwards we will look at Social groups, Language and Religion Social Groups, Language, and Religion . Expect another quiz to follow.

Week of March 31st- On Mon. we will find out about Economic and Political Systems, Economic and Political Systems. Tuesday we will have a quiz over this before launching into at Cultural Change,  Cultural Change,and completing a WS over it. Weds we will review and Thursday take our Exam.

Week of April 7th- Mon. Through Weds. we will be going over The Study of Human Geography, including: Where people Live, Growing Populations, and Why people Migrate. Current Events are on Thursday.

Week of April 14th- We will be reviewing material from the year on Mon. and Tuesday. Weds and Thursday will be CMAS testing (We will practice on either Mon. or Tuesday in the Library)

Week of April 21st- CMAS testing and a look at Colorado History. We begin with  Colorado and it’s Paleo-indiansMesa Verde guided readingHispanicsNative Americans Guided Reading. You will be completing the Worksheets and preparing for the Exam over the first four chapters.

Week of April 28th- More CMAS testing and be sure to get your worksheets in on Colorado History. DBQs are due this week in 4th period class.

Week of May 5th- Mon. we will go over Mesa Verde and the Hispanics. Afterwards, we will begin with Native Americans. Tuesday we will go over that as well and prepare for the Exam on Weds. Afterwards we will begin the Explorers, Trappers, and Traders. We will be looking at the History Channel’s Mountain Men and completing a questionaire as well- Mountain Men

Week of May 12th- On Mon. we will look at the Mountain Men (See above) and conclude on Tuesday. Afterwards, it’s off to the impact of the discovery of Gold on Colorado, Gold guided reading.  We will  start the WS on Settlers ( settlers ) next and then look at Chapter 8, Ranching by the end of the week.

Week of May 19th- On Mon. we will look at  History Channel’s “Donnor Party” , and complete the WS that goes with it. Donnor Party. Afterwards, we will complete the WS on Settlers ( settlers ) next and then look at Chapter 8, Ranching. Our Test will be on Thursday.

Week of May 26th- Turn in all material: Books, work, etc. If you need to complete the exam from last week that will be taken care of as well. We will complete the Donnor party video then look at the influenza outbreak of 1918. to wrap up the year.

Week of Sept. 4th- Bring in Blueprints, continue with Joan of Arc, Essay over battle of Orleans due Weds. Finish up with the Showing throughout the week before moving on to the Renaissance and Revolution ( Renaissance and Revolution ). Don’t forget your 1st Current Event is due next Thursday.

Week of Sept. 10th- We begin the week with Renaissance and Revolution Tuesday  bring in your Castle Project then there will be a quiz over the Renaissance/Revolution Period. This will be followed by the Industrial Revolution and Nationalism through Weds., then take a large piece of paper home to create an illustrated booklet of that period for Mon. Thursday will be your 1st  CURRENT EVENTS to share with the class. Be sure to have yours ready that day or lose 30% for late work on Mon.

Week of Sept. 17th-  On Mon. we will take our Quiz over the Industrial Revolution/Nationalism period using our Notes. This will be followed by a look at Imperial Russia and quiz over it on Tuesday. Then a look at at the Rise and Fall of the USSR (  Rise and Fall of Soviet Union ) with a open note quiz to follow. Thurs. will be a review day. Mon. are first Exam.

Week of Sept. 24th- On Mon. we will have our 1st Exam over Europe. HW Europe Map Quiz (Hard) on Ilike2learn.com (See link to the right) Tuesday we will go over the results then work together on the Ilike to learn site. Weds. is re-take day or a free study day. Thursday will be another day to work out the countries of Europe. Map Test next Mon.

A quiz over this will follow on Weds. along with a look at Ancient Eygpt. Thursday turn in your open note take home quizes, then we will look at the Conquest of Africa: Africa conquest .

Week of Dec. 3rd- The Class Geo-Bee will start the week then we will be alternating between your Religion project and the video showing of Rudyard Kippling’s “The man who would be King” as we look at the role of religion in the culture of the people of Asia.

Week of Dec. 10th. On. Mon we will take our Map Test over Asia and then begin Rudyard Kippling’s “The Man who would be King”. Those of you who have yet to have chosen your Religion to research will do so on Mon. as well. Thusday is current Events. The Religion project is due next Weds. and Thursday.

Week of Dec. 17th- Mon. and Tuesday will be research and development days on your poster of the Religion that you are responsible for presenting on Weds. and Thursday. We will conclude the video at that time as well.

Week of Jan. 7th- We will begin the Semester with a look at Colorado as 5 different states. Then Tuesday, we will take a look at our books and begin with  Colorado and it’s Paleo-indiansMesa Verde guided readingHispanics,Native Americans Guided Reading. HW over the week is to complete the Work sheets. Our 1st Current Event is Due on Thursday, Jan. 10th.

Week of Jan. 14th- On Mon. we will go over the 3rd chapter on Hispanics. You will be assigned Chapter 4 that night and we will go over it on Tuesday. Week of Jan. 21st.-On Mon. we will look at Chpt. 5 on Explorers, Trappers, and Traders, the questions need to be completed and back to me by Tues.-   Explorers, Trappers, and Traders. We will be looking at the History Channel’s Mountain Men and completing a questionaire as well- Mountain Men, then it’s off to the impact of the discovery of Gold on Colorado, Gold guided reading  (due Mon.) and a Powerpoint on Mining- Miners . Quiz to follow next week.

Week of Jan. 28th- We will start off the week with a closer look at Kit Carson and follow that with a quiz over the Miners PPT from last week. Then a look at some video on the Gold Boom of our region. We will  start the WS on Settlers ( settlers ) next  before looking at the History Channel’s “Donnor Party” , and complete the WS that goes with it. Donnor Party.

Week of Feb. 4th-  On Mon. we will begin with a PPT that will follow over Southern Colorado and Cowboys and Ranchers, Cowboys and Farmers, a quiz over this will happen on Tuesday. Chapter 8, Ranching will be completed and turned in at the end of the period. We will then spend a review day on Weds. and plan for our Exam on next Mon.  Thursday is Current Events Day.

Week of Feb. 11th- Mon. will be a review day or Assembly (depending which class your in) Tuesday will be our Exam. Weds and Thursday we will be viewing a video on Cowboys and their life as seen through the eyes of young boys during that period.

Week of Feb. 18th- We will conclude with the Video on Mon and then it’s off to Chapter 9 on Sodbusters   sodbusters2[1]. Tuesday will see us into The Silver Cities,  silver-cities1[1] ( One might come into mind). We will look at Molly Brown through a History Channel program on Weds. This will be concluded on Thursday along with some time to look at  the Bents Fort Project.

Week of Feb. 25th- We will hit the Chapter on Immigrants,  Immigrants first thing Monday. Then we will look at a PPT on Hard Times ,  Hard Times . This will be followed with a quiz on Tuesday. We will then get into the Reformers Chapter and complete the GRWS that night. Reformers. On Weds. We will take a closer look at the people who reformed our state. Colorados Reformers. Thursday will be a review day. Next Tuesday will be our exam over these periods.

Week of March 4th- Mon. we will go over the Reformers and review all other material for our exam on Tuesday. Weds. will see us begin with Travelers and Tourism Travelers and Tourism with a few video clips to start us off then a closer look at Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West Show through Thursday.

Week of March 11th- To start the week, we will go over last weeks work before we will discuss your progress on your Ben’ts fort projects (For those of you who forgot to write down the details of the Project: You can choose to either build a model of the fort or a room. The material you use to create is up to you. It should be no larger than 2×3 feet in size. Put a notecard labeling the project for what it is along with your name. Links can be found on the Blog-roll for ideas, Check out the National Parks Link.) Then we will get involved in Colorado’s Boom and Bust Chapter  Colorado’s Boom and Busts . On Thursday, we will look at the Flu Outbreak of 1918 and examine it’s impact both in Colorado and the USA

Week of March 18th- We will go over the Boom Bust period and spend some time on Bent’s Fort in class before going on Spring break. Your Bent’s Fort project is due April 2nd.

Week of April 1st- On Monday, we will begin the week with a look at the impact of Transportation on Colorado, Transportaion . Tuesday we will share our Bent’s Forts Projects before concluding the material on Transportation. Then on Weds, we will look at the Great Depression and WWII in Colorado, Depression, Recovery and WW II-  Depression Quiz ,  that evening we will finish the Chapter on Aiming Higher,

Week of April 8th. Week of April 15th- On Mon. those of you who need to complete the exam will do so. The rest of us will begin our map of Colorado project. The rest of the week will revolve around this. Remember what is to be included,  Remember to include 50 cities, the national forests and grasslands, Monuments and National Parks, Continental Divide, Reservations, Major rivers, NO roads or Counties, and a short paragraph on 10 places ( identified on your map) you want to check out sometime. We will share these next Monday before launching our final project on Colorado History.

Week of April 22nd- On Mon. we will share our maps of Colorado and 10 destinations. Tuesday, we will begin our Final Project- a visual poster and Speech on Leaders in Colorado. Week of April 29th. Mon.-Weds, conclude with outline speeches and bkg. posters. Thursday is current events. Speeches next Monday.

Week of May 6th- Monday and Tuesday will see us present our outline speeches  on the different organizations in Colorado. This will be followed by some last looks at maps  of the Western Hemisphere for the remainder of the week.

Week of Aug. 29th-We will conclude with the Early History of Europe on Monday and Quiz over it on Tuesday. Your Questionares (  Joan of Arc Video Exam )will be due at the conclusion of the viewing. Week of Oct. 3rd- We will be researching to begin the week the European country and period you chose to present for next week. On Mon. I will explain the elements that you need to have for your presentation. Start practicing on the practice map of Africa as our map test will be Mon. Oct. 17th.

Week of Oct. 10th- On Mon. we will present your Limericks, reports and maps. Tuesday-Weds. we will be practicing on our Africa Maps (Test next Mon.) Thursday is current events.

Week of Oct. 17th- On Monday we will take our map test over Africa then begin with a look at the Lonely Planet video on 3 countries in Southern Africa. We will conclude this by Weds. and begin looking at Africa’s First People, and Kingdoms and Empires. A quiz over this will follow on Thursday along with a look at Ancient Eygpt.

Week of Oct. 24th- Mon., turn in your open note take home quizes, then we will look at the Conquest of Africa: Africa conquest . We will have a quiz on this Tuesday and follow this up with Indepence and it’s challenges: Independence and its Challenges . A 3-Pod Quiz will follow. Thursday we will look at  Issues for Africa Today . This will be followed by a session of Geo- Jeopardy. Monday will see our exam over Africa.

Week of Oct. 31st- Monday is our Exam on Africa. Tuesday we will go over the results. Weds. Re-take if Needed, followed by a video showing of the colonial period in Africa.

Week of Nov. 7th- Mon and Tues. we will be viewing “The African Queen” and Weds. we will conclude with an Essay question referencing the showing.Afterwards we will be breaking out in 4 groups to tackle the Cultures of Africa. Thursday is Current Events.

Week of Nov. 14th- On Mon. we will get together with our team mates on the Cultures of Africa and present our findings to class. Then we will each write an Descriptive Essay over one of the other teams presentations which will be due on Tuesday. After a review of the material that everyone presented we will get back with our teams and answer the Chapter review. On Weds. we will take an Exam over this-Thursday we will look over the results and Next Tuesday will be re-take Day. Next Mon. will be our class-room Geo-Bee.

Week of Nov. 21- On Mon. it’s our Geo-Bee, then on Tuesday we will begin our look at Asia with a look at the countries that make it up.

Week of Nov. 28th- On Mon. and Tuesday, we will be practicing on our knowledge of the countries of Asia. Weds. both your maps and the Exam will be scheduled to be completed and followed by a look at the historic traditions of East Asia  East Asia Historical overview . We will conclude this on Thurs. and have a quiz afterwards.

Week of Dec. 5th- Mon. you will turn in your take-home quiz and after a reading on the Hiroshima bombing we will look at the Korean War over the next day. Weds. we will shift to  SE Asia . There will be an open note assignment(  SE Asia Quiz ) to be completed by Thursday. Thursday is Current Event Day.

Week of Dec. 12th- On Mon., we will overview of SE Asia,    SE Asia . There will be an open note assignment(  SE Asia Quiz ) to be completed by Weds. (HW) refering to it. We will take a closer look at the Vietnam War through the End of the week with an assessment(  Letters Home from Vietnam ) to follow

Week of Jan. 2nd- On Mon. we will look at the History and Culture of South Asia,  South Asia . A take home quiz, South Asia Quiz will follow. On Tuesday we will look at the country of Nepal and the challenge of climbing the world’s highest mountain with the IMAX video on Everest. After concluding this on Weds. we will read excerpts from the book “Little princes”, which tells about conditions for students your age in Nepal. Thursday we will look at Central Asia ,Central Asia . A quiz will follow afterwards.

Week of Jan. 9th- Mon. will be a day to discuss the holocaust it’s origins and legacy ( A guest speaker will be here) Tuesday and Weds. will look at the Crusades, ( Crusades ) and try to understand how that event still impacts relations in the  SW Asia area.

Week of Jan. 16th- We will will go over the History and Culture of SW Asia  SW Asia on Mon., and take a quiz over that(SW Asia Quiz ). Tuesday we will Review for our Asia Exam on Weds. Thursday we will go over the results and look at our Religion Project for next week.

Week of Jan. 23rd-We will be alternating between lab time to research your Religion and the vidio showing of Rudyard Kippling’s “The man who would be King” as we look at the role of religion in the culture of the people of Asia. Thursday is Current Event Day.

Week of Jan. 30th- Mon. will be your presentations on the different religions of the world. This will be followed with a look at Oceania  Pacific Islands .  We will have a quiz over this on Weds. and then look at a look at our state through video and guided reading this week. If you miss any time this week pick up the assignments here that go along with your books. Colorado and it’s Paleo-indians, Mesa Verde guided reading, Hispanics,Native Americans Guided Reading. HW over the weeken is to complete the WS on Mesa Verde and Native Americans for Monday.

Week of Feb. 6th- Monday we will review the questionaries  over the 1st four Chapters, then role play a bit as we get ready for our Exam on Tuesday. Afterwards we will look at Chpt. 5 on Explorers, Trappers, and Traders, the questions need to be completed and back to me by Weds.-   Explorers, Trappers, and Traders. We will be looking at the History Channel’s Mountain Men and completing a questionaire as well- Mountain Men.

Week of Feb. 13th- We will conclude with Mountain Men on Mon. then it’s off to the impact of the discovery of Gold on Colorado, Gold guided reading and a Powerpoint on Mining for Tuesday, Miners . We will have a quiz over this on Weds. followed by a look at some video on the Gold Boom of our region. Thursday we will discuss the Bents Fort Project (Due Mon. April 2nd), and start the WS on Settlers ( settlers ) Due Mon.

Week of Feb. 20th- Mon we will go over the settlers and return all other work and the results before looking at the History Channel’s “Donnor Party” , and complete the WS that goes with it. Donnor Party. Thursday is Current Events.

Week of Feb. 27th- On Mon. we will begin with a PPT that will follow over Southern Colorado and Cowboys and Ranchers, Cowboys and Farmers, a quiz over this will happen on Tuesday. Chapter 8, Ranching will be completed and turned in on Mon. as well We will go over Ranching on Tuesday as well along with the rest of the material for the Exam on Thursday. Weds will be a day of review.

Week of March 5th- We start off the week with Chapter 9 on Sodbusters   sodbusters2[1]. Tuesday will see us into The Silver Cities,  silver-cities1[1] ( One might come into mind). We will look at Molly Brown through a History Channel program on Weds. This will be concluded on Thursday along with some time to look at your progress on the Bents Fort Project.

Week of March 12th- We will hit the Chapter on Immigrants,  Immigrants first thing Monday. Then we will look at a PPT on Hard Times ,  Hard Times . This will be followed with a quiz on Tuesday. We will then get into the Reformers Chapter and complete the GRWS that night. Reformers. On Weds. We will take a closer look at the people who reformed our state. Colorados Reformers. Next week is TSAP Testing, Be working on your Bent’s Fort Project and bring it in after Springbreak.

Week of March 19th- TSAP Testing all week and some bonus material to be shared this week. Thursday is Enrichment Day. BENT’S FORT PROJECTS DUE UPON RETURN FROM SPRING BREAK.

Week of April 2nd- On Mon. we will share our Bent’s Forts Projects before taking them to the library for display. Then we will begin reviewing for our exam on Weds. Tues. will conclude the review session. Weds. is Exam day and Thursday is Current Events.

Week of April 10th-Tuesday will see us begin with Travelers and Tourism Travelers and Tourism. Weds.  will see us involved in Colorado’s Boom and Bust Chapter  Colorado’s Boom and Busts . On Thursday, we will look at the Flu Outbreak of 1918 and examine it’s impact both in Colorado and the USA.

Week of April 16th-We will begin the week with a look at the impact of Transportation on Colorado, Transportaion .  Then on Weds, we will look at the Great Depression and WWII in Colorado, Depression, Recovery and WW II-  Depression Quiz ,  that evening we will finish the Chapter on Aiming Higher,   Aiming Higher[1] . On Thurs. will look at Economic and Ethnic Diversity- Economic and Ethnic DiversityEconomic and Ethnic Diversity Quiz

Week of April 23rd-We will be looking at Conserving Colorado-  Conserving Colorado on Mon. and Tuesday will be a Rev. day and catch up for those of you who have fallen behind. Weds. will be our Exam and Thursday I will be giving out your Final Projects for the end of the year – a visual poster and Speech on Leaders in Colorado. Week of April 30th- On Mon. nand Tuesday we will research our different leadership groups in the library and compile the information. Weds. will be a day to work on the speeches and the posters. Thursday is current events.

Week of May 7th- Mon. will be our last day to fine tune your speeches and work on your poster. Tuesday-Thursday we will share our speeches to the class and look at the possibilities of the Extra Credit Colorado Map assignment.

Week of May 14th-24th.  We will being involved in service learning over the rest of the semester. I will be looking at Animal Protection and Care with you through this time.

Week of Aug. 30th- We will conclude with the Early History of Europe on Monday and Quiz over it on Tuesday. This will be followed with a look at medieval Europe through the story of Joan of Arc.

Week of Sept. 7th- We will conclude our look at the Middle Ages  through Joan of Arc. Your Questionares (  Joan of Arc Video Exam )will be due on Thursday. Afterwards we will pause and look at the Map of Europe and plan for our first map test next week. (You should be practicing on the Ilike2learn.com web site)

Week of Sept. 13- Mon. will be looking at the Renaissance and Revolution ( Renaissance and Revolution ). We will conclude on Tuesday. Weds. will see a quiz over this and also prepare for a  map test on Europe next Mon. Thursday is Current Event Day(  CURRENT EVENTS ), and a look at Constitution Day (Friday).

Week of Sept. 20th- Mon., Map test of Europe (Practice over the weekend), This will be followed by The Industrial Revolution (  Industrial Revolution and Nationalism ) . The week will end with a look at Imperial Russia (  Imperial Russia ).

Week of Sept 27th- Conclude with Imperial Russia on Monday and take quiz over it Then look at the Rise and Fall of the USSR (  Rise and Fall of Soviet Union ) with a open note quiz to follow. Weds. will be a review day and Thursday our Exam.

Week of Oct. 4th- On Mon. we will go over the results of the Exam. Tuesday is Re-Take Day. Weds. and again on Thursday we will be practicing on the Map of Africa for our Map Test on Mon. ( Look at the Ilike2learn site).

Week Oct. 11th Turn in your Map of Africa on Monday, then take the test over the Map of Africa. We then begin to learn about the history of Africa. The powerpoints follow: Africa’s First People, Kingdoms and Empires. On Thursday is Current Events.

Week of Oct. 18th- Mon. we will look at the Conquest of Africa: Africa conquest . We will have a quiz on this Tuesday and follow this up with Indepence and it’s challenges: Independence and its Challenges . A 3-Pod Quiz will follow. We will finish the week with a video over Botswana, Nambia and Zimbabwe. A Test over all of Africa will be next Tuesday.

Week of Oct. 25th- We will be looking at the Issues for Africa Today:   Issues for Africa Today . This will be followed by a session of Geo- Jeopardy. Tuesday will see our exam over Africa. You will get your first look at maps of Asia, start practicing and knowing which country is which. The map test will be next week. Weds. will see the results on the History of Africa Exam. Thursday is Re-take day.

Week of Nov.1st- On Monday we will cover over the Ilike2learn.com page on Asia and collect your maps. Week of Dec. 6th-Monday we will take a look at Oceania  Pacific Islands .  Tuesday will be a review day of all Asia and Australia for the Exam on Weds.  Thursday we will go over the results for potential re-takes on Monday.

Week of Dec. 13th- On Mon. Re-take exams (  Asia Essay Possibilities )will be available. Tuesday we will go down under to Australia and take a look at the lessons found in the Earthling. This will Conclude the First Semester.

Week of Jan. 3rd- On Mon. we will begin our final project covering world geography. You will be designing a board game based on the popular games of Risk and Global Conquest. You will be creating playing cards that deal with historical, geographical, and cultural themes from around the world. ( look at the old Power-points on my Blog to get ideas for questions) Of course a playing board will be required with a map of the world. Creative, pragmatic, and knowledge oriented Games will be rewarded at the conclusion of this project. Thursday is Current Events Day.

Week of Jan. 10th- We will conclude with the Global Conquest Project, with all cards (min. 30, max. 40) , and game boards completed by Tuesday. Weds. and Thursday will be the Challenge games contest.

Week of Jan. 17th- We start the new week with a look at our state through video and guided reading this week. Week of Jan. 24th- On Monday we will do a GRP on the Hispanics Chapter, and complete the Questionaire. Tuesday will be a Review Day and Weds. will be our 1st Exam on the first 4 chapters. We will take a closer look at the Native American experience through the video-Dances with Wolves, and answer some questions related to those clips. Due next week    Dances with Wolves . ( I will show the whole movie on Friday in my room, at 2:00 pm and have extra credit questions available for you as well if you can make it) The Movie is rated PG-13. I will be showing clips only on Thursday.

We will focus on festivals and other ways of life for people living during that time. Expect some Power-point lecture, Video presentation and Role-playing. When all is said and done you will have an appreciation for folks back then and for your own lot in life today.

Week of Feb. 14th-We will conclude with our look at marriage customs of the Renaissance ( Fitting with Valentines Day), then it’s back to the Mountain men to finish the week.

Week of Feb. 21st- We will conclude with the Mountain Men on Monday and then it’s off to the impact of the discovery of Gold on Colorado, Gold guided reading and a Powerpoint on Mining for Tuesday, Miners . Week of April 11th- Monday and Tuesday will be a review days.  Weds. we will tackle the Exam, thenTravelers and Tourism Travelers and Tourism. Thursday will see us involved in Colorado’s Boom and Bust Chapter  Colorado’s Boom and Busts .

Week of April 18th- On Monday we will go over the Traverlers and Tourism results and then look at William Cody. Tuesday we will conclude with Cody and then get into Colorado’s Boom and Bust Chapter  Colorado’s Boom and Busts . Weds. will see us looking at the impact of Transportation on Colorado, Transportaion . Thursday will be a chance to look at a video presentation on the Colfax Ave. Story.

Week of-Why it’s the Last WEEK!- You will be finishing your maps of the state. Remember to include 30 cities, the national forests and grasslands, Monuments and parks, Continental Divide, Major rivers, NO roads or Counties, and a short paragraph on 10 places ( identified on your map) you want to check out sometime.
